“PAA are special folks who have over the last 12 years influenced my personal music tastes and the company I keep. There is a quietude to them as people, an easy going-ness that comes off as kindness and gentleness but also deep conviction, and visual and sonic sensitivity. I borrowed Al’s chair once for a photo shoot; his wife – one of my biggest muses – took my first portrait; their house was always a respite in New York. PJ and I share a love of painters’ pants, white t-shirts, and Chinatown; his playlists are on regular rotation in our house. I have always respected their way as individuals so it’s been a delight to witness the slow jam that has been the evolution of PAA. I still regret declining to model for one of their first collections.

The straight-forward, un-selfconscious openness of their name and their clear, uncompromising look; the experimental approach that intentionally forgoes stylishness and definition; the complexity of dumb simplicity. There’s austerity and restraint but also loose, spontaneous joy. There’s a democratic quality to their aesthetic and our work that feels akin.” LD
