“I recall I had images of black plastic trash bags and white silk organza in their first concept deck along with paper, combed plaster and Tunisian vernacular structures. I tried to use a pale bluette marble in the kitchen, but the ‘dirty cream’ Paonazzo struck a more handsome, enduring profile against the radically contempo Tekio lamp and curved stainless cabinets. We purchased some stunning F303 Pierre Paulin chairs in oxblood leather from Suzanne Demisch, commissioned a 9′ clear resin table with Francesco Bolzano, and I introduced them to Nata and Keti’s work at ROOMS to buy one of their Supra tables – all of which ended up living in their Miami house.
Their New York home became then a metaphor for emptiness: a gigantic glass and chrome desk by David Weeks and USM, a single chunky Rainer Daumiller chair imported by my brother’s shop in Denmark, German soda fired vessels, some stone fruit, a pile of candles. It is the light and shadow in the apartment that makes it feel inhabited. That kind of empty spaciousness is so rarefied in New York. Time stands still a bit, perched above the city with sonic and thermal protection from the world beyond, only the open vistas and the Hudson at your site line.” LD
